STUDIO RULES AND GUIDELINES - in addition to these all Klein I.S.D. private voice guidelines from the "Choir Handbook" are recognized. Please refer to them HERE if you have any questions regarding those.
Objectives
To address specific areas of
technique and presentation including,
but not limited to: breathing, tone, technique development, interpretation,
diction, etc.
Lesson Procedures: ◉ Please arrive to your lesson warmed-up and equipped with a pencil and your music. Although I tend to give you all of your music I do not always have a copy with me so it would be good to carry an extra copy with you. You are expected to carry your music in a 3-ring binder and always have all repertoire with you at each lesson.
◉ I recommend that you record your lessons for review later in the week and so that you can monitor your progress.
◉ When your repertoire is in a foreign language, write the English word-for-word translation and IPA into your music.
Repertoire: In all cases I assign repertoire according to individual need. Choices are based on level of experience, voice type, technique development, and individual goals. My goal is to find music that is appropriate for what you need to learn as well as something that you enjoy singing and listening to.
Cancellations: Notify me of illnesses or other problems as soon as possible. With prior notification, we can schedule a make-up lesson. If you become ill on the day of your lesson contact me via email or text message. I can't usually answer the phone while teaching so that is not a good way to contact me. I try as hard as possible to never cancel lessons and I expect that you will attempt to do the same. If you are clearly ill and contagious I do not want you to come to your lesson.
Learning a
song: 1
- Speak the text and analyze it. If foreign language, write it out with IPA
and literal translation.
2 - Learn notes / rhythms. Use solfeggio and count-sing rhythms.
3 - Speak the text in rhythm
4 - Sing the text and identify vowel/register difficulties.
5 - Polish and memorize.
Payments: All payments are due at the first lesson of each month that you attend. I will send out specific reminders via email about payments but basically you will pay for the number of lessons that you know you're in town for. A typical 1-hour lesson if attending all 4 lessons in a month is $160 but if you're going on vacation or to camp then adjust accordingly. 1/2-hour lessons are $80/month for 4 lessons.
